(1) In winning the 1976 Masters, he tied the then record score of 271 set by Jack Nicklaus in 1965. His 65 was the best start of any champion; his 131 set a record for the first 36 holes, and 201 for the first 54 holes (since tied). Lost in a sudden-death playoff to Nick Faldo in the 1990 Masters. In 1992 he was alone in second place two strokes behind Fred Couples. Also in 1992 he became the first player to win on the regular and Champions Tours in the same calendar year. 1986 US Open champion. 1969 and 1982 PGA champion. Member, eight Ryder Cup Teams; Captain in 1989 and Captain's Assistant in 2008. Member, World Golf Hall of Fame. Winner of 22 PGA TOUR and 14 Champions Tour titles. Has played in 43 Masters.
