Phil Mickelson carried two drivers in his bag during Tuesday’s practice round, toying with an idea perhaps only Lefty could hatch successfully.
Hmmm … he did it once before, didn’t he? Added a driver set up for a draw in order to better navigate Augusta National’s doglegs. That was for the 2006 Masters, and he cruised to a two-stroke victory over South Africa’s Tim Clark.
Only this time Mickelson might use two drivers with different shaft lengths, including one 46 inches long that would give him extra distance.
Still, he’s not sure what he’s going to do come Thursday.
“I’m hoping I only need one driver because I want to put an extra wedge in,” Mickelson said. “But if I feel like distance is going to be a bigger factor, I’ll stick a second driver in. I have two or three different game plans.”
Maybe we should vote on this. I’m torn ... I mean, doesn't he have enough length off the tee here?
Go with the extra wedge, Lefty ... you did it with two drivers once before, but why tempt the fates at the tournament you love most?
