As serene as it may be inside Augusta National, that’s only the hint of a whisper of a shadow of how reverse crazy it is across the street. Washington Road gets a bad rap for the amount of commercialization it throws around the entrance of the Masters, but you know what, it’s just your everyday ordinary suburban edge boulevard servicing West Augusta. Sprinkled with strip malls and gas stations and more fast food choices than any normal human being would need in a lifetime. The difference is when a huge annual sporting event is thrown into the mix, you end up with the attendant traveling circus pitching their tent outside the gates. “Who’s got tickets?” “Who needs tickets?” You keep thinking someone should introduce these two guys to each other. The neighborhood supplements their income by selling parking spots right on their lawn. And of course, the ubiquitous Funnel Cake trailers have rented space in furniture store parking lots. Because I don’t know about you, but nothing says world class golf like Funnel Cakes.
